Kirtan

The word "kirtan" is increasingly popular in yoga circles. The Sanskrit root kirti means “glory” or “fame”. We could therefore translate “kirtan” as meaning: a form of glorification, sung alone or in unison.

Although there are many mantras that serve different purposes, chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra

Hare Krishna

Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama

Rama Rama Hare Hare

is especially recommended for those who aspire to achieve the greatest benefit.

In the spiritual encyclopedia of Srimad-Bhagavatam (3000 BC), the great sage Sukadeva Goswami teaches King Pariksit:

“My dear King, although the era in which we live is like an ocean of faults, there is nevertheless a great quality in it: that simply by chanting the maha-mantra Hare Krishna , one can become free from the hold of material energy and thus move towards the spiritual world. "(12.3.51)
